Food & Crafts, Hobbies
Hi all! I, as well as most of you I'm sure, really enjoy baking, cooking and crafting. Here I will be sharing my experiences with recipes and my crafting projects as well.
As far as crafting, I like adventure. So far, I have been sewing, knitting, crocheting, resins and quilting.
Sewing. I used to sew my own clothes and scrubs. This is a great skill to have as I found that I have a desire to wear something I cannot find. The solution - make it yourself! Sewing seems intimidating at first, but if you practice at a beginner level, you will advance your skills with confidence.
Knitting. This is a skill that I had started years ago but had gotten out of it. I started to pick it up again a few years ago and have been throwing a knitted project out every few months. Knitting, I have to say, was a bit challenging to learn. From what I have heard from other knitters who crochet, they felt that learning to crochet first had been an issue for them. Most people who start with knitting, from those I have personally talked to, have shared that picking up crochet was pretty easy. On this I would assume that some techniques used in crochet are also used in knitting.
Crochet. I have been crocheting since the early 1990's. I like crocheting as it's fast and forgiving. It's also very easy to come up with your own patterns and designs. Plus, there are sooo many things you can make with crochet. I've made afghans, sweaters, tops, hats, scarves, hot pads, the list goes on. This is a truly versatile craft and again, very easy to learn.
Resins. This is new for me, I just picked this up this past year. So far, I have found that as long as you read the instructions, it's pretty self-explanatory. I also recommend going to the websites of whoever you purchase your resins from as this will give you the best information on their products. This is also a fairly easy and can be inexpensive as well.
Quilting. Quilting is a completely different animal from sewing. It was hard in the beginning as I kept trying to use sewing mindsets that are not used in quilting. Quilting takes patience and is not very forgiving if you make a mistake. Also, based on the project you plan to make, quilting can go quickly or take quite some time.
I will probably be adding to my repertoire as I love learning new skills.
Enjoy!
