BOMC February Block, Garden Update, Monday, 04/19/2021
Good afternoon all! Last week was long and hectic, so hoping that since Mom is doing better, I can get some things done around here.
I was able to get the blocks for February and March done finally!! I had found this pattern I would like to give credit to whoever, there were several people who had it listed that I wasn't sure who the original creator was. This is a log cabin heart block. I did change the pattern a bit to suit myself, so, there is that.
The block for March I went with my own design. Mom and I had gone shopping for holiday fabrics for table runners and I loved these St. Paddy's Day fabrics! I found a shamrock cut out online for the center applique. Using the light weight double side, I cutout the pattern on that and the green fabric, pressed and sew.
I wasn't entirely happy with the stitching. The machine kept doing this weird thing and I think I kept rushing it. After tearing out the stitching a couple of times, I left it due to not wanting to ruin the block. (Mom told me later that there were 2 different zigzags on the Husky!).
But, I'm still happy with it nonetheless. I'm still debating on my April block. The instruction choices for April are Easter, Spring, flowers, etc. I keep thinking of a floral block, so will share when I get it sorted out.
The greenhouse is still performing fine. My little tomato plants are still going though I've lost a couple more. Rather have them drop out now before I get them in the ground. The green peppers are unchanged and now have 2 acorn squash getting bigger. I did replant more tomatoes, zucchini and spaghetti squash. The zucchini and squash so far have not done anything so I'm concerned my seeds were old. Fingers crossed the new batch (not the gremlins) works out. We did pick up a couple of different cabbage and tomato starts from a local landscape supply. They actually had the mortgage lifter tomatoes there! I haven't seen those since I was a kid! So I got 3 of those, a couple of Christmas cherry tomatoes and a couple of different cabbage. I'm really hoping the cabbage grows this year so I can get some kraut made. Last year it got too hot so not a lot of us in my area grew any. I had found some caps and weights on Amazon to make the kraut so would like to get some use out of them.
Sean and I had our 2nd COVID vax Thursday. Kicked my butt again, headache, joints sore. I still have a bit of a headache and some achiness but better. Sean started out better but he started having back pain that hasn't gone away yet. Hopefully it won't last much longer.
And lastly, sadly our rooster, Esteban, passed over the weekend. Granted, he was about 6 years old and had a bit of a rough life. At one point, a neighbor's dog killed almost the whole flock and he survived it. We tended his wounds and he made it, which was surprising. He sired a few chicks and kept the ladies in check. I haven't decided if I will replace him as we have 10 hens at this time.
Well folks, it was nice to be able to write something today. Will be back in a few days! Take care and God Bless!
