Friday - Baking Fails! 03/12/2021
Good morning all! Yesterday was a bit crazy, so didn't have time to share. Plus, my hands still hurting from my wood carving attempt. Lesson learned to limit time on skills as such to about 15 minutes and break.
My Ghirardelli brownies were super yummy, however, had left them in to back about 3-4 minutes too long. It's been hard to judge new recipes in baking in the Instant Omni oven, but didn't want the house warmed too much as the weather has been decent outside. Definitely worth it though. I tried a new recipe yesterday for cream horns. Miserable fail! The recipe I used for the pastry was a rough puff. I will take the hit on that one. Though the recipe didn't call for the dough to be refrigerated prior to baking, I still know better than that. The filling, ouch! I should have definitely read through it prior to attempting to make. The ratios were off a bit and seems a couple of ingredients were missing. Not sure I will remake today or not, but I will try again with a different recipe! Once I see how it turns out, I will definitely share. The cones I ordered from Amazon were actually really nice. I added the link for them on the home page. When I figure this out more, I will try to add in the pages. I liked that the edges are not fixed and that with a little squeeze, they slipped right off! Though not very enjoyable, here's how they came out. It will take me a little more practice to get the rolling better.
But today, I will start my cooking with making some egg bites the kids have been asking for. I use a Farberware Electric 8 quart pressure cooker. Granted, it's not the fancy name and not as many features but I didn't want to sink in a lot of money for something I wasn't sure I would be using enough. As it is, I am very happy with it. The egg bites are pretty easy to make. I don't think you really need a recipe, especially if you already make eggs at home. I just add what I like or in the mood for, mix it up and fill the mold. Today, I am using 1 dozen eggs, 4 strips of precooked bacon chopped into small bits, a cup of cheddar cheese, a dash of garlic and 3 dashes of minced onion. On the Farberware from what I understand, all but a few settings are high but just with presets for the time. I am using the #6, chicken, cook time of about 8 minutes.
Okay, 3rd batch almost finished. Hubby took off with the first and the kids will have to do! Plan on making a dozen hardboiled eggs next. The silicone molds I purchased were on Amazon as well. I won't be adding any links as there are so many to chose from! Best advice is to select one with the options you want. I found that going for the number of what you get is not really the best idea. Some have several labels/tags included which may not be what you want.
Okay, need to finish up. Going to be headed out east to see the in-laws. Take care and God Bless!!
