June BOTM (Finally!), 09/27/2021

Good afternoon! I FINALLY got my June block done for the quilt guild BOTM challenge!! So excited about it! I had conceived the idea back in June, but it did take some time to get my items to create it. That plus the decisions of how to implement the idea to a design I was happy with. So, here it is!



This is for Fathers Day. This block consists of a men's long sleeve dress shirt and tie that I got at a thrift store. I had actually picked up a few ties so I could decide which would work better with my shirt. I had even did a simple knot to ensure that I would have the correct height and angle for the tie to lay. I laid the collar points off just a bit to have a more "dad" look to it. The block is 12.5 x 12.5. I've been kicking around ideas of how I will be finishing the quilt and will probably have borders around the blocks. I am thinking of even having the months sewn into those borders to add a little more to it.

    How does the various products mentioned on the list compare, and which one can be said to be the best?best heavy duty sewing machine

      Hi Hadley! I personally prefer older machines for heavy duty. The June block I just did, I initially tried to sew on a modern machine but it couldn't sew through the thick layers. I ended up cleaning an old Viking 190 which stitched through the layers like a dream. Word of caution, some older machines are hard to get parts for depending on the make.

      Okay, in speaking with a colleague, we discussed heavy duty machines. We came to an agreement that for a modern machine, Janome is pretty heavy duty. It's able to sew through multi layers without a struggle.

Pumpkins for Pam, New Pattern!

Hi all! It's been waaay too long since my last post!! But, I've been a bit busy here, working on my sewing machines and crafting (and gardening, selling eggs, kid out of school, getting ready for camping and so forth!!). I wanted to share this, my latest pattern! Since we haven't been able to have quilt guild meetings, a small group of us, after getting our vaccines, started to meet at each others houses. Spring Gardening & Products, 03/22/2021

  Good morning all! A beautiful morning here in Ohio, a balmy 58F degrees right now. I've been busy outside getting my garden ready for planting. I was able to get the additional 4 beds and just got them assembled this morning. Here is my current garden. Still cleaning and weeding yet, so don't mind the mess! This is the side view. Wanted you to see the nifty spigot with hose reel. I plan on getting another steel flexible garden hose. I haven't taken an inventory yet of the watering system, but pretty sure I still need to get more of the bubbler tops and stakes. We picked up a plastic walk-in greenhouse while we were out this weekend. I plan on putting it up this afternoon and getting my seedlings out there. I will add those pictures of the greenhouse later. Here is my seedlings so far. The cabbages on the far end are already an inch long! I was surprised at how quickly they sprouted.
